ABMP says your participation counts-but I say think twice.
The Association of Bodywork & Massage Professionals is proud to sponsor the national event, EveryBody Deserves a Massage Week, and looks forward to the participation of many massage therapists July 12-18, 2015. Since 1995, ABMP members have given their time, money, and effort to help those less fortunate, while also promoting themselves and the profession.
Consider participating during this week. With a group effort by ABMP members, massage can make a difference in our communities.
Now, if I’m being 100% honest, I’ve never even heard of this event…and I’m not a huge fan of donating time. But if you are just getting started, here is what dozens of people will excitedly share with you about volunteering.
Exposure. Successful business is based on filling a need and marketing that service. The success of a massage practice will be determined by the extent of your marketing efforts. Click here for help with an Annual Marketing Plan. Participation in ‘planned in advance’ community events is one way to gain exposure for your services while also making important contacts in your area. I recommend no more than 2 free events per year. Remember to let people know what your doing with a Press Release to your local paper. Click the link to see a sample Press Release.
Satisfaction. I have experienced a great feeling of fulfillment after participating in events that help others. ABMP and AMTA members have shown themselves over the years to be passionate about bringing better health and stress relief to consumers who may never have experienced a great massage.
Nearly every community has well-run charities, causes and services that need all the fundraising help they can get. When a massage therapist can help meet these needs, everybody wins. Sometimes it’s easier to donate gift certificates versus donating services. Consider a plan of who and why you will donate, whether it be with your time or gift certificates.

Coming later in the year, the American Massage Therapy Association sponsors National Massage Therapy Awareness Week, October 25-31, 2015.
